I need help bout registration for pen pals?

I registered a form for pen pals. It says non US students register for FREE. So i register it. But then i ask some of my family members.They say,dont trust the net much,it might ask u to pay or something that cost really expensive.So I wanted to know,which is true? Do you think I have to pay or not?
