Answers:
I went through this when I got married and had to transfer my car's title to me and my husband from my dad. We live in California, and I think that regardless of the car being from Texas, it would be the same. Take the title and make sure the owner on it signs it. Once it is signed, you only have a few days to get it over to the DMV before they will charge a fee of around $15. Fill the information on it of whoever it will be transfered to as well. There is a section on the title that asks if the car is a gift or being given amongst family members. Make sure you check that box because if not, there will be something like more fees or something that has to do with the taxes (I apologize I don't know that info. completely) but ask the CA DMV what exactly the reason is. They will transfer the title and probably have you do some other things to get it registered in CA such as your plates and stuff. I'm not sure if this helped but it's the little bit of info I know from transfering my car. Good luck.
How to locate a vehicle earlier than 1980? I have the VIN #. had no luck with the DMV.?
Call the DMV and ask them about the proceedure.I got ticket tonight for failing to stop for a stop sign. do I need to tell my insurance company?
Write up a Bill of Sale for $1.00. Send your registration back to the registry to cancel your plates. Have your Dad take the title and copy of the Bill of Sale to the registry for new plates. He'll still be responsible for any excise taxes due because many states no longer honor a cars value at $1.00. Your Dad now owns the vehicle...More Questions & Answers ...
