Question:
I was involved in a very minor accident that resulted in a cosmetic scraping of the other vehicle. My vehicle did not puncture, gauge, break or damage the other car, but my paint transferred to the other vehicle. What is the likely cost to repair such damage? I have Allstate Insurance. This is my 1st offense. Will my insurance rates go up?
Answers:
The damage you describe sounds like $300 more or less to fix.

How much a car? used car + insurance + NY state?
My advice would be to have the other party get an estimate for the damage. If it's not a large amount, I would just write a check for it without your insurance company getting involved. I know a friend of mine that had a scratch on his door about 1.5 inches and it was $ 250.00. Chances are if it's a 250-300 scratch it's well worth it in the long run to pay for it now, than to pay for it for the next 3 years in premium! How should I handle a car accident?
if its as little as you say, then sort it out yourself, it will be cheaper. if it really is as little as you say and no dent just paint transfer, it might even polish out, talk to the other driver, if your friendly it will work outif all you did was transfer paint, offer to have it buffed out at your expense. it doesn't cost much. the damage is low-cost so it doesn't make sense to file a claim with the insurance company.
