Question:
A friend of mine's son is in australia and stupidly drove a car without insurance and had an accident! The other car was written off and the ins. co. are chasing him for $25,000!! He has no money - can they "do" him? Or will they realise they can't get any money out of him and let it go in the end. Police were not involved, they just gave him a ticket and a warning - no-one was hurt.
Answers:
Do banks check if I have full cover insurance on the car at all times?
Don't know about Australia but in UK insurance company wouldn't pursue for debt...I think this is wrong and it annoys me that someone can drive without insurance, damage another car and virtually get away with a fine..It should be pursued through the Civil Courts. If students have to pay their loans back for the rest of their lives why should d**kh***ds get away with it. If they thought they would have to pay back thousands of pounds then perhaps they wouldn't do it,(Sorry having a bit of a rant there, but it does get my goat)Hi, Cheap car insurance plz help?
You need to ask this in Australia Q' & A's - not here in UKWill my insurance rates go up?
the insurance company will come after him for the money. that is what they do. they will try to get it any way they can, even garnish his wages. his only recourse to not pay anything, is to declare bankrupsey.30 days hold on a stored vehicle?
Don't know about Australia, but in GB this is a civil matter.Must the person who insured the car be present at my driving test?
The insurance company will probably sue him for the funds and the court will decide what and how he is to pay. It might involve an attachment on his earnings etc . . .
Lucky lad, in this country he'd likely be prosecuted for driving without insurance.!
What is a good accident attorney in Kansas?
Personally I hope they go ahead and "do" him. He may not ahve the $25,000 in one go but installments.Dont know about Australia. But here in the U.S. The insurance company would in fact pursue it. If they do not get satisfaction within 60 days, it is turned over to a lawyer & then it would go to court for a judgement. After that his pay would be garnished. If he has no job / no pay to be garnished. His license would be suspended.
The only way he wouldnt have to pay for it is to declare bankruptcy
