This car was bought about four years ago in KY. But no title was ever aquired. I live in TN and need to get a title for it, but have no way of finding out who owned it and aquiring the title.

If you know the county you should be able to call the County Clerk in KY and have them run the VIN to find who the vehicle is registered to. UPDATE: I spoke to my husband about this -- his uncle and cousin buy and sell a lot of cars. I don't know about the legality of it -- but if you can't get help through the court systems, you can go to a local junk yard and find the closest thing to your car -- and buy the VIN plate and title. Then you can switch the VIN plates.

KY is a state where you can registered but never titled. What you have to do is call the KY DMV (you'll need the VIN vehicle Identification Number), they'll let you know the title status. If the vehicle was financed back then you might be able to get a released title from them. You might also try (I think it is CARFAX). They have the history of most vehicles. It might give you some info to track it down.Get in touch with the motor vehicle Dept. in Ky. and see who you contact.Usually the State Capital has a Dept to obtain the Title. I know in New York we get in touch with Albany, our state.
