I bought this nice car at a used dealership that I thought was legit since it claims it uses Carfax. I've been waiting for the registration to come for a while now and I decided to call the DMV. It just so happens that the car isn't registered in my name but the old owner. And to make things worse the car dealership has gone out of business. Anyone been through this too?

You will need to work with the Dealer's Division of your state's licensing office. The dealer was likely a curbstoner and didn't have valid licensing, your car likely is from an auction where it landed after a repo, or the car has super high mileage, or the car was "totalled" by an insurance company and it bears a "rebuilt" or salvage on it's title. Your reason using this dealer is because he uses Carfax? Anyone can use Carfax, actually, you can call your licensing office and receive the same info that Carfax has, except you get it for free! When your tabs expire, you will not be able to get new tabs until your situation is worked out, contact the dealer's division now and tell them it's regarding a dealer out of business.

However, do you have any PROOF of your purchase made from the car dealership.
This may just be an error due to them not getting the title.
If I were you I would contact the local police station, and try to get this solved. I am sure that the old owner would back you up on this, because if they sold it, they are also proof towards your proof that the car was actually legit, and that the dealership had it.

call a lawyer and get some legal advice you might have to take this to court. but try to contact someone from the carlot you should have the name of the owener of the lot use this to track the person down
