I got pulled over a couple months ago for going 38 in a 25 I still don't believe I was going that fast.. anyways my dash lights were all burnt out when I went to the dealership they told me it was some switch and it would cost about 300 to fix I couldn't afford it so i put it off. well the night I was pulled over I was on a very very dark road no other cars were on that road at the time I could not see any of the dash. .Since then I have gotten the lights fixed and I have a receipt it was actually my bulbs and I got it done for way less than what the dealership quoted. I can't get this ticket I have a pretty bad driving record and if I get another moving violation dmv will suspend me for 45 days and I'm a single mom who works fulltime and I take my daughter to school everyday..
please tell me what you think I should do I'm so nervous about court and I really believe I'm not guilty help!

First. the cop didn't pull you over because he was bored and had nothing better to do.. face it ... you were speeding.Second..Did you explain to the cop when he pulled you over that you had no dash lites to see the speedometer with?
Now.you really should go to court and very calmly explain to the judge the problem with no dash lites on your car.

Being that there was no other traffic around to judge your speed by, and being unable to see the dashboard gauges, you had to guess how fast you were going.... and you guessed wrong. Tell the judge that you have since had the dash lites repaired. Show the judge the receipt for the repairs to prove that you did have them fixed. He may just see it your way and toss the ticket out.

its a 75 dollar temporary license fee if you do get suspended and you'll only be able to go to and from work and the grociery store. If you go to court and you weren't in a school zone or anything most of the time the DA will drop the charge to a lesser offense. A defense of not being able to read the dashboard wouldn't change how fast you were actually going. I got a ticket and showed that my speedometer was off, the DA said he could give me an extra ticket for that if he wanted. If you really have that bad of a record you should really take a defensive driving course and get some of the points removed.

In some states, and I've done this myself, you can go to court tomorrow and when they ask if anyone wants to speak to the prosecutor, say yes. You'll probably stand in a line and when you get up to the front, just say that you want to see if you can get your ticket reduced to a non-point ticket. Explain what has happened, and that you have corrected the situation. I doubt that he will drop the ticket, you may get it reduced some, but I think they'll make you pay. This ticket would be for Defective Equipment, I do not believe that is a moving violation, however, they might make issue of it, because of the fact that you stated it was real dark, and you couldn't see how fast you were going, so that would bring it back into the Safety/Defensive Driving area, and most courts are stiff about putting others in danger, and fine drivers accordingly. Maybe you could get it traded for an unsafe vehicle ticket. Think that will help? I don't. You probably don't know how fast you are going, because you could not see the speedometer, and that won't fly in court. Do you have the option of pleading guilty with an explanation? That is one we have here.
