I want to go and get mine and I was just curious how long it takes, what would I need to take with me, do I need to make an appointment before showing up, which forms do they ask you to fill out, what is the procedure - do you get the license on the spot or do they mail it to you? Do I need to go there in person in order to obtain this license or could I just send them my photo and info by mail? When is the best day and time to go there in order to avoid long lines? Please share any additional info that you think would be useful to know. Thank you.

I imagine each state has its own rules for applying but I would say take a copy of your birth ceritificate and a copy of your Social Security Card and something with your mailing address and a copy of a photo id, maybe a school id would be sufficient.It's easy. You need about $10 to do it, may be less depending on the state. I would recommend going early in the morning on a Monday or Tuesday, they get busier as the day or week grows later.
