I'm leaving the country for a year. What can I do about my car insurance? or what do you recommend?

Question:
One idea was to get the lowest possible coverage and continue insurance. The problem though is that I may be only back like 3 month out of the year here, but I really want to keep my car. Is there a insurance company out there that does short term insurance policy? or I can leave the car here with no insurance but is that a bad idea? Please let me know your thoughts and advice. thanks!

How can u find a car's registration and address from the VIN # and License Plate Number?

If you are planning to park your car in a garage, and nobody will be driving it, you can ask your insurance company to suspend the Liability and Property Damage, until you come back. You can let the Fire and Theft coverage run while you are away. It is much cheaper than most every other kind of coverage, but it really depends on what kind of car you are talking about.

How old does somebody have to be to have the title of a car in their name?

just call your insurance agent.

My car was stolen and crashed. I only have liability coverage.?

Leave the car without insurance in a secure place and buy new insurance when you get back.

How long will it take me to get my license?

Be sure you talk to your insurance agent. You should have comprehensive coverage while your gone to protect your investment from fire theft glass breakage and rodents chewing your insulated wires. Be sure the building you leave it is insured also.

Were do i claim my check?

Well, it the car is parked where it's on public property, it needs to be licensed and insured. If you put it in your garage and padlock the door, it doesn't have to be, but if the garage burned down or a tree fell on it and ruined the car, it wouldn't be covered. Kind of a judgment call I guess.

Were is a total free web page to find a person by using there license plate number?

If your state and insurance company will allow it, suspend all coverages except comprehensive (fire, theft, vandalism). I know that NJ will not allow this. It can be done in New England (not sure about MA though). Be sure the vehicle is parked off public roads (in a garage would be best) and be sure that NOBODY has access to drive it. The coverage will be cheap and you do not have to cancel your policy. When you come back, call your agent BEFORE you drive the vehicle again to add back all the other coverages.

Question about SR-22?

I think the best thing in this situation is to call your insurance and see if they have cheap coverage for just comprehensive damage (like theft or flooding). I had a friend once who went to Italy for a semester and let his insurance lapse while he was gone. When he came back, he was considered "high-risk" because he hadn't had insurance in the U.S. for a few months, and they ripped him off big time in his premiums when he tried to get insurance again. Your insurance company should be able to help you, and I know a lot of companies provide for being out of the country like for people in the military, etc.
