So my son got pulled over and issued a dui in washington state. It is being negotiated to a driving infraction as they didn't have a case for the issuance of the dui. But the dol is most likely still going to suspend his license because he refused the breath test based on counsil advice. Question: Without a dui conviction, what will the suspension due to his insurance? Will they even know about it?

BUT.. a DUI on your record will, eventually, be noticed by the insurance carrier and you can expect that there will be some sort of increase.

You can always exempt your son from driving. That will lower your rates, but your son will not be covered for driving (a VERY risky effect if you think he might take the car anyway).

In missouri the breath test refusal shows and would cause a one year revocation. It would require an sr22(proof of insurance) at the end of the year to get license back. This would put him in high risk insurance for several years. I would ask the lawyer what the advantage of fighting the dwi and spending all the extra money when the same thing is happening to him even though he was found innocent.
