Is it illegal to drive a car that's been totaled?
I suppose a few phone calls are in order. Seeing as to how this is her step-mother I don't think that Small Claims Court would be the first choice.
Good Luck! I don't envy you or her!

You are screwed both ways.
How expensive is car insurance under my own name rather than my Mom's name?
To recover money, you would have to go to a small claims court. I bet she would have to file where your stepmother lives.
Do you think this is a good price for auto insurance?
As for a car, you should know she never purchased one by now, if you have not figured that one out now. She can not get title or vehicle, cuz the money was spent and not on the car. Hope she learns her lesson.
How long has it's been? Where's the car?
How high can insurance go for a 17 year old?
If it's been more than a few months, she needs to go to her stepmother and see what's up. All her stepmother has to do is sign the title over, give her the car and yall get a corrective title form yall's respective state.
Do you think Sears is lying . you mite lose your brakes if you drive the car.?
If she doesn't have that, she can ask for her money back, but if the stepmother won't do it...take her to small claims court in the state the money changed hands (I'm assuming Oklahoma). Petition to have the judge either give your girlfriend the car and title or her money back. Your girlfriend will likely win because she has the bill of sale.
