Question for Texans?

Question:
If one were to take a driver's license test today and pass, how long can that person expect to wait before being able to drive. Would there be a temporary license thing or would that person have to wait until the real license is mailed.

Answers:

In the UK when a car insurance policy starts and you haven't received your certificate of motor insurance ...

If you pass your drivers' test here in Texas, they give you a paper license first, and mail you your regular license, usually in about 2 weeks. You can drive with that paper license, but cannot use it for picture identification. You can actually leave the DOT driving yourself. So, immediately. They tell you your regular license will be there in 4-6 weeks, but I've always gotten mine in about 2 weeks.

SR-22 Insurance required if I don't drive?!?

The Texas Department of Public Safety would issue a temporary (paper) permit. It could be between 4 and 6 weeks before you get your permanent license.

Can Learner drivers (with an L on the back of their cars) drive in the U.S.?

That's in the TDT handbook which you better know if you gonna pass the written portion of the test.
