Question:
I couldn't renew my N.C. driver's license today because the state of New Jersey blocked its renewal until I pay for an unpaid parking ticket issued in 1989: 18 years ago! I was not even aware that I had this ticket; I was never notified. Now I must pay the ticket in New Jersey AND pay $100 to the New Jersey DMV to lift the suspension on my license. I have read that the National Drivers Registry is increasingly making communication among states possible. Such sharing of data and linking license suspension or non-renewal to such things as even "failure to return library books" is scary from a point of view of privacy. Have others had this experience? Was it time-consuming to solve the problem and get your license renewed?

If my road tax ran out on the 28 th of February, how long do i have before I get a fine?
Feel fortunate that your "fee" is only $100.00 A suspended license in another state costs 285.00 to get reinstated, and for other states, in order to get reinstated, you Must get Proof of Financial Responsability, often called an SR-22 form. This is an expensive form of insurance, and in some cases, you have to carry this for up to 3 years mandatory. I am guessing you moved without using the normal Change of Address forms that are present in every post office soon after you got the ticket. That would be the only explanation as to how you never got the notice.Good luck.
Scary from a privacy point of view? How about scary from a trying to get away with a crime by going to another state point of view? You got caught; pay it. I haven't had this experience because I don't leave the state like you did.

you have no privacy, when your stuff shows up in a computer some ware. Most often, your over due ticket will not be persued, they just quietly lay it asside, and waite till a lisense or reg. comes due, then it comes around and bites your butt big time.Do you need proof of insurance to go get your drivers license?
Funny how I was talking to a State Trooper here in Texas only a few hours ago and we were discussing how expensive traffic tickets have become over the past several decades, and how much more expensive they are if you don't pay them on time. Oh well. I'll have to tell him how right he was. Thanks for the story. God Bless you.Need help with learners permit?
So pay the ticket, not knowing, or more likely not remembering, just means a surprise, but it still has to be paid. Thank your lucky start they didn't add compounding interest. It isn't a matter of privacy, because there should be no escape, purposefully or otherwise, when it comes to unpaid traffic tickets, parking tickets, alimony, child support, court fines, etc.More Questions & Answers ...
