If I'm stationed in illinois, and my car is registered in Missouri, can I get my safety inspection in illionis

Question:
Or, would I have to go to Missouri to get the inspection

Answers:

Drivers license?

Yes, you can. As a matter of fact, eventually (if you continue to be stationed in Illinois) you will HAVE to begin getting your car inspected in Illinois. I am no expert as to why, but I do know that laws regarding emissions tests vary per state...and if you are living in a certain state, you have to keep up with the inspections according to how often the law says. You also will eventually have to have your vehicle registered in Illinois. However, if you are active duty, you are still allowed to keep your Missouri tags, if that is what you want to do. You also are entitled to pay Missouri fees instead of Illinois registration fees, if you choose to do so because they may be cheaper. But they will require you to present paperwork, like maybe your permanent orders or something. Good luck. All this is such a big pain! I hate getting my vehicle registered.

How much are driving permits in the state of illinois?

NO, you must get your vehicle inspected in the state you are registered in. The states have their own individual requirements of what should be inspected. It is not guided by Federal laws.

Have any other motorists noticed this phenomena while driving. Take note next time you are driving?

For the most part there are exceptions made for military on active duty. Ask your CO.
