I was Rear-ended..?

You can apply to have "your" number placed on retention and DVLA will issue the car that you take it from a "date related plate" This will cost you £80.00 at the last count but that fee does cover when you wish to place it on another car and no further fee payable

Dmv problems?

It is valid for one year and DVLA will remind you just before renewal date

Car insurance!?

I don't know what state you are in. Some states, the plate goes with the car. In others, the plate stays with the owner. It sounds like you in a state where you own the plate. Here in North Carolina, you just take the plate back to motor vehicles and turn it in. It's up to the new owner to register the car and get his own plate and registration.

If i rent a car and was later told the car was damaged , who will pay the damage, my insurance comp or his?

go to your local regisrtation office with all you paperwork for the car fill in the forms they give you pay 80 pounds they then issue a new reg no for your car and put your reg on retension for you untill you want to put it on anther car or sell it this retension has to be renewed every twelve months or you lose the number

Valid car stuff?

If you sold your car,you do not need to keep anything. If the buyer want to put his plates on the car,so be it,he will contact the licensing agency and take care of it. You don't have to do anything except release the plates, sign a release along with the bill of sale you give the buyer.
