Virginia dmv guidelines?

Question:
Ok its a little crazy. I live in Virginia and dont know much about the whole DMV game. I gave someone my car in Texas. I lost the plates on the trip back home. I dont have the title because I gave it too them. I was suppose to renew my registration on 12/31. How should I go about this smoothly I know your suppose to turn in plates before dropping the insurance but I dont have plates, title, or registration. please help I cant handle big fines.
