I sold my car (virginia) but I lost the plates to turn itto dmv. HELPPPPPP?

In order to drop insurance I have to turn in plates first or its a &500.00 uninsured motor fee. What do I do if I dont have thje plates?? I need to drop it Im waisting time and money. thanks
