Question:
My girlfriend is Greek and she's about to apply for a British Driving License.
Is a learner's permit enough to drive a moped to school and back in the state of California?
One of the forms of identification she needs to provide to prove her name is her (Greek) passport. Her passport has her name on it written in Greek letters and a phonetic representation of her name written in English (Latin) letters because obviously most English people can't understand Greek writing (I know I can't!).
Totaled a friends car. Has a loan on it still but no collision insurrance. Am i responsible?
The problem is that how she actually spells her name in English isn't the same as how the Greek passport authority have translated the name phonetically on her passport. However, the DVLA say they will use the name they can see on the passport.
Is it necessary to have full tort on your auto insurance?
Is there anything we can do to stop the DVLA using the spelling on her passport and instead use the spelling that she uses in everything else she's ever done in the UK (bank accounts, PAYE and tax references, mortgage, council tax, electoral roll, etc)?

If this does not work then the only other thing to do is get a British passport with the correct spelling of her name, unfortunately they will also require her birth certificate and if her name is spelt the wrong way on her birth certificate then there is not much you can do as like it or not that is how her parents wanted her name spelt and the only way to change that is via depoll.
Apparently not, based on this comment in your question: "However, the DVLA say they will use the name they can see on the passport."
