Why is the tax value of my car different from say blue book or kelley value?

My car tax value is considerably higher compared to the actual value I have found in the blue book. Is this common? Is there anything I can do about it?

There's private seller's price, which is what you think it is, including maintenance and upgrades. Then Kelly's Blue Book is just basic dealership price.

The tax value doesn't take into account the tremendous drop in value the moment you drive off the lot, but goes by the manufacturer's retail value, or what you paid if you over paid for it.

Various states (and countries for that matter) have different means of setting the amount, but none of them use blue book.
