You can not get insurance if the registration is not in your name. That makes no sense why are you not covered. You should be listed on your parents policy as a driver unless you either, do not live in the house or have your own car and insurance...
What is "gap" insurance? Do I need it?
Your parents should be able to add you to their policy as a driver. That is, unless, they are with a company that has guidelines against young drivers. You will not be able to get insurance on the car since it is not in your name. If your parents are able to find a company willing to insure you, maybe they should consider changing. Otherwise, if you are driving the car and are involved in an accident, you wil not be covered. Depending on state insurance laws, you may be cited for not having insurance as well. Hope this helps. If i am hit by uninsured motorist in arizona ??
If you're under 18 you can't get insurance w/o your parents. Are you sure their insurance won't add you on? Seems to me any insurance company would at the right price unless your driving record has a DUI or really bad accidents. If your parents told you the insurance company said no, I would be highly suspect. =) Your parents should switch insurance carriers to find one that will add you onto their policy. They're the parents. It's the responsible thing to do.How many years back does your dmv driving record have in CA?
As for getting insurance for a car that isn't in your name, some states don't care (I live in CA and it's fine) but in some states it's against the law. Either way get your parents to help you out and find a new policy that will cover all of you.
