If you don't want to pay it, take the bus. I have friends in Australia, and they never complain about it. If they need a car that much, they will pay it.

It's time to come back in Europe. For example here in Italy (where I live) if you have a car (1600 cc. for example) you pay an ownership-tax of about 200€ (260 U$) and each two years you have a test (revision) of about 50€. Don't know how much the other european country pays, but newspapers tell that Italy is the european country with the highest taxation.
