Can the insurance company refuse to pay out the equivalent of the amount owed on the car after an accident?
Auto body labor rates are market driven and vary wildly, sometimes as much as $20.00 up or down from shop to shop within a 50 mile radius. I've seen it as high as $105.00 per hour, (Sonoma Valley) and as low as $28.00. Insurance companies do not and cannot dictate hourly labor rates though many companies recieve discounts from repairers.

It varies state-by-state and company by company. Bigger companies tend to get better rates because they have more business at the shops. And some companies offer better deals to bigger shops to establish a good working relationship.
