32 years law enforcement, retired. No where on your registration papers does it say what color the car is, and the DMV doesn't care what color you paint it. The VIN is the controlling unchanging number they go by. I might also note the insurance doesn't care either, and "Red cars cost more" is urban legend, not based in any factual information.As long as the VIN Number stays the same you can paint it pink and it would still be the same car in the eyes of the DMV.

no you don't have to notify anyone. Your registration does not specify the color of your car. It's your right to paint your car any color you want...and god forbid they start that...as long as the car is legal it's not a problemNONE OF THEIR BUSINESS.
