This guy rear-ended me on his way to the airport. I was in a rush and so was he. I was stopped at a red light, he came out of no where and slammed into my car. It turns out, the damage to my vehicle is about $500.00, I took his info, DL#, Tag#, Business card etc. we shook hands and he told me when he comes back from his trip in 2 weeks he would fix my car. I thought nothing of it, he seemed like a decent guy. This happened March 3, 2007, it'll be a month tomorrow. I called him a little over two weeks after, he hung-up on me, I thought it was a bad connection so I called him again and he told me to get lost. What do you think I should do at this point? Also, I have no insurance, but he doesn't know that. How can I make this guy pay for the damage to my car? Can I still file a police report even if I have no insurance?

You need to turn the information into your insurance agent at your insurance company and let him handle collecting your damages for you.Oh, that right, you don't have insurance, do you, and Florida is a no fault state. Yeah, file a police report. Be prepared to hand in your license when they find out you aren't insured though.

Why dont you have insurance? That is your fault...You should have been prepared.I think it is now too late to file the report. Once you leave the scene of an accident, it then become a war of words...a he said/she said type of battle...Unless you have witnesses...I think you just got had! You may have to come out of pocket for this one. You should always contact the police when there is an accident with damage to the vehicle. and you should, by law, have insurance on the vehicle in the state of Florida. At least Personal Injury Protection and Bodily Injury. Sorry dude...check it up as a lesson learned. Pay the damage or go through a lawyer...but good luck on that case! You not having insurance is a bad no no.

1. Go buy liability insurance so when you show up at the police station they don't cite you for driving without it. Obviously it's not retroactive, but at least you'll be showing a conscious effort to resolve that end of the issue.
2. File a hit and run police report. Have them investigate, if they will, and charge him as needed. If they won't investigate...
3. File a damage claim in small claims court. You may have a processing fee, and it may take time...depends on how worth it this is to you.

Well gee... if you were RESPONSIBLE and had insurance.. you would simply call them.. they would pay for your damages. and then they would go after the other guy and make him pay.
