I don't know about CA personally, but in most states once you are granted a "full" license by that state, you no longer need the permit. A permit is granted to allow you time to learn to drive while accompanied by another fully licensed individual who can take control of the car if you are driving improperly (I am assuming that you have a permit and know how to drive now). Once you receive a regular license in that state...no permit needs to be carried. Just remember, 18 or not, once licensed, if stopped for any infraction of the law...you will lose points off your license.
