My insurance agent told me if I am engaged and living together?
You can get insurance for any car you'd like to at age 17 if you're willing to pay the price. Yes, convertibles generally cost more, for the reasons you cited. At 17 years old you are probably still living with your parents. I would suggest that you get the VIN of the vehicle and call or sit down with the Agent who insures your parents for auto insurance. Ask the Agent for all the discounts you are eligible for. Going on with your parents insurance should get you more breaks than going out on your own for insurance. Each state has their own insurance rules. Each insurance company has another layer of rules. Don't just get a price for insurance but ask for an explanation of what you are being quoted. Price is important but the level of coverage should be fit to your situation. If you shop around you may want to have information about all of the drivers in your household as well as all of the vehicles. Your parents current Agent would have all this and that's a big advantage for him. An insurance quote is just a prediciton of what the policy will cost and until it is issued that price is subject to change based upon verification and investigation of all of the rating factors lurking in those many many questions agents will ask. Always answer questions honestly; if you attempt to conceal anything the coverage you are purchasing may not be there when you need it most...at the time of loss. Good luck.
