How to buy car without a title in California (CA)?
What is it worth? What kind of condition is it in? How many miles on it? Can you afford to buy another one? These are all questions you have to answer. I carry full coverage of a 1995 Escort. Why? It is still worth $4,000 as a low mileage top-condition car. If it was worth less that $1,500, and I didn't qualify for every discount imaginable, I would carry max liability, and cut everything else. Could I afford $4,000, or even $20,000 to buy another car? Yes. Is it worth putting part of my savings account at risk to save maybe another $200 a year in premium? No. You have to look at your car, your bank account, and your policy. Remember, if all you carry is liability, and you run into a pole, or your car is stolen, you buy another car out of your pocket. If you cut coverages, carry the maximum liability you can afford, and buy any uninsured/underinsured motorist cover that is available. It's a bit ridiculous to carry full coverage on a 12 year old car. If you total it you won't get much if anything after the deductible. Liability coverage, to take care of claims against you in case of an accident, and comply with your States requirements, is all you really need. The rest is a waste of money. If the car is cleared of any liens, just liability would be suffice
