Can I temporarily extend my vehicle registration?

If I am outside of the state where my car is registered and the registration is coming up for expiration, will the DMV issue a temporary extension on my vehicles registration? I cannot get back to the state where it is registered before it expires and it is my only vehicle. It is registered in the State of Utah.

No, there are no extensions. Why not mail your renewal in, this way would work, unless you have to go through emission testing. Is there anyone at home that could take the car for emission testing, or do you have the car with you?

In the state of Ohio you can get an extra 30 days by purchasing a temporary plate (its pretty cheap) but you'd have to either be in the state or file a power of attorney and have someone in the state do it for you typically. Your best bet really is to call the DMV, if you don't have emissions testing etc you may well be able to mail in the necessary paperwork and have them mail out your new registration without ever going back to that state. Also most states accept other states emissions tests if you're temporarily out of state.
