Chances are cheques issued to the DMV on Friday are night-deposited, or put in regular deposit Monday, in which case it can be anytime Monday or after that the money comes out of your account. craig, i work at a bank. all banks are not the same but usually it will take a day or 2. weekends arent business days so anything done friday evening and beyond will most likely not be posted on your account till at least monday if not tuesday.It varies. Sometimes I check will take three days or longer to clear and sometimes they clear right away. If the Dmv made a bank deposit that night, the check could clear the next day, but with most systems that don't have the automatic electronic transfer it usually takes at least two days.
Did you know ( at least in my state ) that it's a crime to bounce a check at the Dmv? No kidding. The have the option to prosecute you for it.
Granted it would probably be a misdemeanor and you probably wouldn't get any time for it ( unless you have a list of prior offenses ) it is considered a crime.

Depends if they run it that day. Also depends on how quickly your bank works. I've had checks show up the same day in my bank account as the day I wrote them. Banks also stay open later in some cities, so the chances are greater if they process until they close. A lot of banks don't process after 4 or 5 p.m. though, so it would show up the next day.What if someone totals their car and has no insurance!?
Best thing is to just make sure you have the funds to cover the check when you write it. A bounced check will affect your credit score which will affect just about everything out there nowadays.

Incidentally, my bank counts Saturday as a business day since they are open that day. I have deposits and withdrawals show up in my account all the time on Saturdays. And on Sunday, if I've used my ATM card, the amount is still deducted from my account and on Monday I will see the actual debit. So, my bank is always keeping a tally of my actions.
