It depends on what state you are in and whether you've had drivers ed and safe driving classes. You should get your parents to call their insurance company and ask how much and how can you get it cheaper. Where I live they give a good students discount if you have good grades. That goes by company, though, so they'll have to check with their company.

First off Mercury SUCKS, but at least that tells me that you are in California. I know that they didn't offer a good student discount, but they may now. Also, if you are a male your rates are already going to be higher. Both of those vehicles that you are going to be rated on are considered higher to insure for your rate class due to after market parts that are generally installed at your age. It couldn't hurt to call a few of the bigger companies (Farmers, State Farm, Allstate) and get a quote for your whole family. A lot of times, the bigger companies will have discounts that the smaller companies can't give.
