Why did they say you may lose your brakes? Is a brake line bad, about rusted out, has a hole in it, is your master cylinder going bad, etc.? If all related thing like this is good you are not likely to just lose your brakes. Your question doesn't make a lot of sense as you say inspected and then comment about an accident. So maybe there is something wrong with the car. Better make sure the car is safe before you continue driving it.
