They do it in nevada. Insurance companys in nevada are supposed to report you immediatley if you let your insurance lap. The dmv also pulls so many random drivers and checks their insurance. If you get caught then they give you a fine, or you have to prove if your car was broken down that a mechanic was working on it and they have to sign something for you or if you are selling the car then you do not have to pay for it.
