California License with a NY address?

I think I've heard of this before. I want to know if I can and how it is possible. I'm moving to LA, I'm going to need to buy a car, I plan to live in California for quite a while if not indefinately. But for the first year or so, I'll probably be moving around a bit. Being that my residence will be so fluid, is there a way I can get a cali license, but have it read my parents NY address and my current legal residence?

No you need a valid California address and you must get a California license within (I think) 45 days of moving there. It's easy...Cal and NY have a reciprocity agreement---there's no test or anything.
