Moved from CA to HI, Vehicle Registration Notice from CA. Why?

Question:
Back ground:
I moved from California to Hawaii with my car last year. At the same time, I reported my change of address to DMV California so they should know my new address in Hawaii.
I'm still keeping my California driver laicense because State of Hawaii allows me to keep and continue to use my Californa driver license in Hawaii until it expires. I plan getting the Hawaii driver license before my California driver license expires.
About my car, I registered my vehivle in Hawaii as soon as my car arrived to Hawaii.
I paid-off my car loan before shipping my car from california to Hawaii, and re-titled my car in Hawaii. So, I now have both of the title and registration, issued by County of Hawaii, under my name.

How long will a car accident make my car insurance rates higher?

Problem:
However, I received the Vehicle Registration Renewal notice from DMV California yesterday by mail.
I thought Hawaii-DMV sent my updated information to California-DMV. Or, they don't communicate each other?

If someone bought me a car registered it in my name and then they want it back - what are my legal rights ?

I'd check California's DMV web site for details about how to handle this. (Ain't the Web great? It's so much cheaper than a long distance phone call.)

If there's no information there, send the California registration back along with a photocopy of your Hawaiian registration and a note to cancel their end. Keep copies of everything (including the California registration) for a year or two in case things go awry. You might also consider proof of receipt from the USPS.
