Question:
My 15 year old son just got his permit (God help Me). I don't want to ask my insurance agency because I'm afraid my prices may now skyrocket! My insurance company has both of my sons listed on my policy as "non drivers" because the last time I renewed neither one of them was old enough. Do I have to add him to the policy? What if I don't and he gets into an accident?

Do you live in a "no-fault" state? If you do, then you don't have to cover him now.You don't have to insure him but if he were to get into an accident, your insurance company will automatically insure him on your policy. Also, he would be covered for medical bills whether or not he was on your policy or not. Everyone in your household gets covered for medical bills in a car accident, if they are or are not on your policy. No insurance company or broker will tell you that, but its the truth, if you live in a "no-fault" state. Every state differs but the laws are similar.

Well the way it worked for me is, When my daughter got her permit, she is covered automaticly. When she received her drivers license, we had to add her as a driver. If you do not do this, you will not be covered if they get into an accident. Now alot of this depends on the state you live in. I would call your agent and tell them you are thinking of adding them and ask what it cost. If there is a cost they will tell you.California Driving Records shows accident?
