Question:
I bumped into another car last night I did the stupid thing and admitted fault, I offered to pay for any damage off the record as I only passed my driving test 2 weeks ago. Now I am trying to work out whether it will be cheaper to go through the insurance company I do not have any no claims as I have had to claim for my windscreen this week. what do I do I am with a certain ladies insurer and have checked the website out with a quote. this has put my premium up £40 if I was a new insurer will this be it or will they penalise me even more?
Also will they be able to tell if if was definately my car as I am unsure due to the fact that there is a big scrap where as I just bumped into the car shouldn't there be a dent, and the position is also incorrect I have a fiesta with a plastic bumper which is quite big, where as the scratch is below the bumper on his vectra what should I do?

Applied for car title about 2 months ago?
since you made refrence to pounds i am assuming u are from the UK so i am not sure of the laws there. But here in the US, it is always best to let the cops figure out who was at fault, since u said u offered off the record, it is ur word against theirs. You can always deny ever agreeing to anything and let her call the cops to file an accident report. She might be out of luck since she left the scene and you will be off the hook. Also, once you file a claim (if you choose to do so) you can tell the insurance company that you do not think you were at fault and they will do their own investigations. Can I renew my TX-ID card online?
I think paying for the damages (if not too expensive) is better than insurance claims.Car rental insurance? do i need it?
If you think you are at fault over this accident, then I would offer to pay for any visible damage. Then if the other party refuses and wants to do it through the Insurance, then tell him if he does you will refuse to admit that it was your fault. So in doing that, the onus is on him to prove it was your fault.Property taxes must be paid before you can register car. What do you do if you are a renter?
Claiming for a new windscreen does not affect your no claims discount. Admitting liability is never a good move - insurance companies specifically tell you not to do this because it limits their room for manouvre on the claim. If you can afford it then pay for the damage yourself but be aware that the other driver may claim for more than you're anticipating. People aren't as honest as they should be and that minor repair they've been putting off is suddenly your fault and caused by you bumping into them. I would suggest that you find a car paint technician yourself and ask the other driver to take their vehicle to your nominated repairer, making sure that you are there when it is looked at.As for whether there is a dent or scrape - you're relying on the honesty of the other driver again - car paint technician should be able to tell you whether it's a new or old scape.
No trust me ! if the other party is happy to keep it of the record, then do it and fast, in case they change there mind. It will usually work out better this way because the insurance industry is one big con. However once you have both agreed a reasonable price or what ever arrangement you make , you must get them to put this agreement in writing and also that this is the end of the matter and that they Will not try to claim through there insurance at a later date and sign it of course! but i must warn you there is a small risk that these people may try to put in a whip lash claim. it really comes down to whether you can trust them. Good Luck Hope this helps.
Ok thanks, for those answers, but I have another question. Should I call on the other person.?
Not sure of best way to go. You don't say if other car was moving or parked. If moving then he/she would need some witnesses to prove accident was your fault otherwise it would be just your word against theirs. Take photos of your damage. With Mobile phones these days, everyone should take immediate photo of damage, face of other driver, number plates of other cars who may have witnessed what happened. Any paperwork with an Insurance Company usually results in a loss of No claims Bonus even if not your fault. Try increasing the excess you have to pay on a claim, this may reduce your insurance premium next year.More Questions & Answers ...
