Can i insure my car for one week?
MOT is a to show that the car is fit to be driven on the road..they check all the Lighting equipment is working on the car..headlamps front and rear..hazard lights etc.. They check the Steering and suspension and the brakes etc your tyres and wheels and Seat belts and general stuff like the horn and exhaust emissions and windows and general vehicle condition..well that's in UK anyway..they should give you an MOT inspection check list after the testThey check everything, and if your car doesnt pass then you need to pay and get it fixed.
The purpose is safety mostly and there loads of things checked. Typical Yank below doesn't occur to him this might be a UK question!

The purpose of the M O T is to make sure the car is in a safe condition to be on the road. They check the brakes steering lights and suspension. You cannot tax or insure the car without a valid M O T you cannot legally use the car without it.i have just bought one off ebay with a full yrs test, and i think i will have to do it up before a scrap yard will accept it. i have been told, once it leaves the garage ,there is nothing you can do about it .it must have been don,s garage.
To make sure that your car is road worthy ,they check tyres steering breaks lights, and body work .
