Claims Adjusters: Are we dorks or what?!?

Question:
Does anyone else find it amusing that we leave our job and come and answer more questions about car insurance? and does anyone find it so nice to come on here and say what you want to say to idiots on the phone at work all day long? It just makes me laugh to see all the adjusters that are always on here.. I dont even particularly like being an adjuster- but i just answering these darn questions!

I don't think we're dorks. I feel the same way as you, and I find it VERY therapeutic. My husband (who is a HO adjuster thinks I'm nuts) and friends laugh at me. I do a great job during the day pretty much telling the insureds and claimants whats what in a professional manner and fortunately for THEM they don't attempt to argue with me (it must be the delivery) but I've found in doing this job for as long as I have the best way to be is upfront & honest, don't sugarcoat the truth, and basically just tell them like it is. The people I deal with daily (including other adjusters at times) seem to think I'm an idiot and I "don't understand," when in fact I MORE than understand--they are total unreasonable a-holes. But anymore I just laugh at them...while I'm on the phone. But what kills me more are the other adjusters I talk to.there are just some people in this industry who should seriously find other lines of work because they haven't the SLIGHTEST idea of what comp neg is, joint & several, vicarious liability, let alone the fact that ALL drivers have a duty to avoid accidents and that duty MUST be met. Now, if only the LAWYERS would read up on the law...I'm tired of educating THEM and am seriously considering sending them MY bill when they ask ME for legal advice!

Not dorks, insurance geeks. Agents go thru the same thing. I leave here and people want advice on something. The thing that really gets me is when someone asks advice, you know the answer and give it to them and they tell you that you are wrong. A few years ago I started telling people that if they wanted advice that I would be in my office tomorrow.

Who Should pay for the damages on my car? Since a tree fell on it?

Personally, I answer these in an attempt (I admit a losing one) to try to educate folks who are not insurance professionals. If one thing that 20 years of handling claims has taught me is that the general public is woefully under-educated and make too many naive assumptions when it comes to insurance claims matters. Learning after or while in the middle of a claim is a tough way to learn.
