Do I have to go to the city where i bought my car to get my registration or can i stay in my city?

Question:
Because both cities are in my state im thinking it shouldnt be a problem for me to get my registration in my city. My name should be in the state registry of motor vehicles so my city could just look up my name. Am i right?
