Question:
I'm buying a new car..I currently own a 1988 Mazda which runs (a little shaky) but has been sitting at a parking lot for 2 weeks. I wanted to donate it, but I can't seem to find my title.... yet (somewhere in the house). This morning I found out that my car was towed away. I honestly dont care for the car, I just want my plates. Now, my question is...when I do find the car, do I want it back from the towing company or should I just leave it there and just get my plates? (I definitely want my plates to surrender to DMV here in NY)

has any one ever got a car or truck stolen?
You still have to pay towing and storage fees for the vehicle. If you just get the plates, the towing co. can still charge you storage for up to 90 days. Donating at this point is not the answer, and since it is a 1988, you will not be able to write off any of the worth on your taxes.Depends on what it is going to cost you. I don't know for certain, but it seems like they will charge you for the tow even if you say "you can keep it," unless the towing company towed it to a junkyard that they own. If that is the case, get your plates back, and get them to pay you to junk the car (we had a '95 Corsica that didn't run at all, and that we stripped of many parts, that a junkyard came and towed away, gave us $70 - but we had the title).
Main thing is find the title if you are sure that you have it, it will make things easier. If they won't junk it and are going to make you pay for towing regardless, then drive it out of there and donate it (if you itemize your taxes). Or, try selling it as a "parts car," you may be able to get a few hundred. Then if all else fails, sell it to a junkyard.
Will my c.a car insurance premium go up ?in approx how much ? i pay $170?
You may not have a choice. The towing company may bill you for keeping your car on their lot, even if you do forfeit the car and they take possession of it (READ: You could still get stuck with a rather large bill for them to keep your car). Besides, if you donate your car to Mother Waddles or another non-profit organization you can write off the Blue Book value of the car on your income tax. My advice is to get the car back ASAP, donate it, then turn the plates in to the DMV.Anyone looking for a New Jersey DMV Defensive Driving Class?
The answer to your question lies with the tow company. You can approach them to waive the tow bill and storage in exchange for the title to your car and you get the plates. You have to find your title, though. On the other hand, they may not want your car and you'll have no choice but to bail your car out of there. If it was me, I'd probably pay the tow/storage if it's under a couple hundred and sell the car outright for whatever you can get. Donating is a good option as well and I'd get on that quick so you can claim it on this year's tax deductions provided you can itemize. When is the best time to get rid of collision on my cars?
We had an old car not worth much, and we sold it to a salvage yard for $50. Then you can keep the money or donate it to a charity. But im sure you will have to pay for the towing and storage either way.More Questions & Answers ...
