Who pays for gas?

Question:
If you are a kid (under 19) and driving, or if you're a parent with a kid who drives, who pays for the gas? The kid or the parents? If the kid has a job it makes sense that she/he would, but what if the kid doesn't? And what about insurance... who pays for that?

Answers:

Drivers ed class question...?

If the child has his/her own car, everything is even more expensive than if the child is simply occasionally borrowing the parent's car. If the kid is borrowing, the parent might allow some leeway, but certainly no parent wants to discover that the tank is nearly empty just as they're about to leave for work in the morning. Some parents may insist that the child put at least half a tank of gas in the car if they're using it to go further than 10 miles away.

How do you get insurance?

With gas prices as they are these days, I'm guessing more and more parents are going to limit the amount of gas money they give their children who drive their own cars. As in "I'll give you $X a week, but if you need more than that for something special, you need to go earn some money or do some extra chores around the house, because I'm not forking over $50 that should go to the electric bill just so you can go cruising around."

Do you have AIS for your car insurance carrier?

As far as insurance, some states or companies require the parents to include their children on their policies as soon as they turn 14, whether they have a license or not. This does cause a considerable rate increase, so don't expect parents to be happy about insuring their kids. If the child has their own car, then not only is there a rate increase for having a teen driver, there's further increase because there are more cars. It is generally cheaper for the parent to include the child on the parent's insurance policy than it is for the child to have their own independent policy. That being said, some families say "I'll put you and your car on my insurance, but you need to contribute some money since the rate is going up." Some parents just pay the insurance and leave the gas money up to the kid.

BOUGHT A CAR 4MTHS AGO Just found out that it was an insurance write off cat d can i get my money back?

It's different for every family. Richer families can probably afford to just pay for everything the teen driver needs. Poorer families will do whatever is more affordable for the family as a whole.

What exactly do you have to have to get your Drivers license at a DMV in Charlotte N.C?

Can I assume the kid gets an allowance? If they want to borrow the car then the flip the gas. I suspect most parents wont like charity for too long but if they are running an errand for mom or dad or family member then no, gas is on mom and or dad.

When are demerit points removed from your licence in australia? When you pay the fine?

Being that im 16 and beginning to drive i should be able to enlighten you with a fair answer. I believe that it all depends on what the teen is driving for. My plan at the moment is I am paying for my car (including the monthly payments), and im paying for gas and i use my car for transportation to school and other things like going to a friends house! My mom pays for insurance though, but im not mean about it. Im trying to help her out by doing what ever i can to lower my rates such as driver courses, and alarm systems. Hope i helped!

What kind of car insurance do i need?

Im 17, I pay for gas. The kid should always pay for gas if they aint got a job they dont need there licence. Insurance im lucky i dont have to pay for, but i am fully insured there is a full covarage plan from State Farm which allows anyone with a valid Drivers Licence to drive your car and they are covered, I fall under this but if i get in an accident then my parents have to put me on the insurance. Insurance for my 84 Chevy Silverado is 400$'s every 6 months which i pay 200$'s of and my parents help me with the rest it also keep the insurance cost down if the person under 19 is not the registed owner my mom put it in her name so that way it would be cheaper me being 17 for the same vehicle in my name would be 800$'s for 6 months.
