In any case, do NOT try to get away without the insurance company knowing, or you might wind up without INSURANCE, too...just call your insurance company and ask it depends on your insurance carrier. My mom's insurance allows me to drive her car while i am not on her policy. I don't live with her so that does make a difference. If you did add the other driver to your insurance your rates would go up because you are insuring another driver.
