This is from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation site. (Helpful if you are going to Ontario, otherwise you may want to look for the specific province (s) you'll be visiting)
"If you are a visitor to Ontario and want to drive while you are here, you must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver's licence from your own province, state or country. If you are from another country and visiting Ontario for more than three months, you need an International Driver's Permit from your own country or you may have to apply for an Ontario driver's licence, depending on your length of stay. You should also ensure your automobile insurance coverage is sufficient, and that you carry the original or a true copy of the vehicle registration or Certificate of Title for your vehicle."

I don't know if a learners license would be valid in Canada, You definitely couldn't rent a car here. A valid drivers license is definitely OK, but I don't think a learners licence would qualify. I think your permit is only valid in Illinois.I am a New Jersey drive, and got a Pennslvania ticket, will my insurance go up?
I am sure if you asked the place that issued your permit, they would know.
not alone you cant. are there other licensed drivers going with you? if so then you can drive on a permit i believe but the laws might be different in Canada. come to think of it, its only valid in the state of residence, if you had a license you can drive for so long in another state without having to transfer it over right away but that would also depend on the laws in Canada. how about you let your friends drive?
Can I send another person to which my license plates over?
Canada is out of Illinois, you are not allowed to drive outside of Illinois. Therefore, no, you can not legally drive in Canada! Not sure of the penalties if you are caught, but it would not be worth the risk.More Questions & Answers ...
