Question:
i've never bought a car in the uk before and i'm not following the principle very well, i mean, you could arrange insurance first, and then the car you want have already been sold to someone else, at the same time, you don't want to be driving it off the forecourt with no cover. so is the best thing to sort it all out at the garage? will the dealer help me to do this?
Answers:
Really the only time the garage demand that the insurance schedule is produced is when they are taxing the car. However for peace of mind you should have your insurance set up after leaving a deposit to secure the car. If you are buying from a reputable dealer then you should be confident that they won't sell the car to someone else.
I would not recommend driving the car off the forecourt without the correct insurance being in place. xx

The dealer wont know all your personal details either, what you do is get some quotes and then call them from the forecourt wen you make the purchase, they will insure you to drive home based on all the details you provided.
Does anyone know of any car insurance that allows you to drive any car.?
The dealer can TAX the car for you, (this is the easiest way) from his insurance documentation, whether you intend to get insurance or not.
You can't get the tax so easily, you need a (insurance) cover note to get the tax disk, which will take a few days to get posted to your house, and the MOT certificate will have to be shown.

Driving licence in the UK ............?
No, only before you drive it. Best thing to do if you don't have insurance on something now and an agent is to find an agent, give him your personal information and tell him you're looking to buy. When you finally find the one that suits you, buy it, but before you drive it off the lot ring up the agent with the make, model, year and VIN of what you bought. He will put insurance in place. Drive to his office and pick up the proof of insurance, then take it and the title to the agency that does plates and do the transfer and get your plates. Now,enjoy owning a car.
Is there a list somewhere on which automobles will have the lowest insurance?
If you finance a car whoever handles the loan will want insurance on the car immediately. Full coverage will be required on newer cars and almost always on older ones too. Car dealers don't give a rats a** as long as they got the check in there hand or pre-approved funds. So the answer is yes. The seller gives you the keys you drive off with or without insurance. The finance company most times give you a time period to show proof of insurance. http://painintheexhaust.blogspot.com... My car was stolen but last months insurance payment was late, will they pay for my car?
The dealer will, indeed, help to arrange insurance (he usually gets a commission), though probably the best way is to put a deposit on the car so he doesn't sell it in the meantime and shop around yourself. The insurers will need the details of your new car.If the car isn't taxed, either the dealer will do that under the dealership's own insurance arrangements or do it for you with the cover note for the insurance you've arranged yourself.

I'm looking for auto insurance (SR22A) but I do not have a car?
DON'T risk buying the car, driving it home and then sorting out the paperwork. It only needs something to happen the instant your drive off the forecourt and you'll be in trouble if you don't have the above!
Hope that helps and welcome to UK motoring.
