Car Insurance question?

Question:
I am 17 years old, and I have a provisional license. I was wondering if it was legal to drive my parents car without me added to their policy. I live in New Jersey.

Answers:

Does your driver's license allow you to drive anywhere in your country?

You can drive your parents car, but, if you have an accident, they will cover it and then charge your parents all the premiums from the date you obtained your license before they will issue a check to your parents for the collision damages (if they carry collision). So, if it would cost your parents $1500 per year to add you & you had your license for 2 years at the time of the accident, they will charge your parents $3000 payable in full before they pay for the accident. Then, the company may nonrenew your parents for a nondisclosed operator. The only way you will not need to be added to your parents policy is if you have your own car & own insurance. If you drive your parents car & then have an accident, they will only ask for your insurance information & why you were driving their vehicle (for example, you needed to borrow your parents' car while yours was in the shop). Do the right thing & get added to their policy. In NJ they will rate you on the most expensive vehicle (the newest or one with the most coverage). If they only have 2 vehicles, you will be rated as occasional. If they have 3 vehicles (& you are the 3rd driver) you will be rated as principle operator.

Question about SR-22?

u live on new jersey???? NEW JERSYYYYYYYY************** U SHALL COME OVER MI CASA }(

Son has a permit do i add to my policy in nj?

It's not illegal, no one's going to jail if you get caught but, your parent's insurance may not cover any accidents you get in.
So it is very very important that you are added to your parent's policy.

When paying the down payment for a new insurance policy, is that considered a seperate payment from the rest?

No.

My 30 day tags expire tomorrow, no memorandum title came yet, and dealership went out of business!?

No, you must be on their policy to have coverage. They likely have put an exclusion on you, stopping you from driving their car legally.

If you rent a car, you HAVE TO show proof of insurance right?

You most absolutely cannot. I just went through this with my son. Call any insurance company and ask about this and they will verify it. Fortunately I had just added my son a month before he wrecked. Most likely your parents have their insurance rates based on experienced drivers and they will be dumped by their company if you were to wreck their car. Although their Ins.carrier will pay the tab for the accident your parents will then be forced to shop for another carrier under the worst of conditions- right after an accident !- Hope this helps

If i have driver license from another state can i get auto insuranse in newjersey?

Coverage usally follows the veh, so as long as you have permission to drive it all should be ok. But i would recommend ur parents add u to there policy, some states require that all drivers in the home be added to policy. But with Jersey I dk. I dk the laws there..

Does anyone know of a web site where i can run PA license plates?

No, you need to either be added to their policy or get your own. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

Sacramento's state, for short?
