Title on a new car?

Question:
I bought the car and am getting insurance through GEICO. I am on my dad's policy, but when I try to add my car, it asks whose name is on the title and I want to change it to my dad's name in order to get a cheaper rate. I am in California, do I need to go to the DMV to change ownership? What do I do?

Answers:

I was reversing in my car and hit another that was coming in am i really at fault?

You will have to actually re-title the car in order to do that. You'll have to pay for the title fee and taxes, and probably some other add ons.

What do you need to get the registration sticker for your car?

If you are listed as a driver on your dad's policy, you should be able to cover the vehicle. You cant take yourself off of the registration if you have a loan against it in your name. You also might have to pay taxes in order to transfer the car to your dad.
