I am not sure if you legally need permission, if you pay for it. But, since the car is in both names, it would probably be a good idea. I mean if you name the car "poopsie" and you are sharing it w/ a guy, he might not like that. My son named my Jeep, a manly name, so that if he drove it, he wouldn't get teased.
