Does declaring bankruptcy eliminate money owed if being sued by another person?

Ok, i am getting sued by another person as result of a car accident. I was under the impression my insurance was still current but turns out, it had expired, so i had no insurance to cover thier accident. I have 3 questions regarding this 1) when you have insurance, aren't you covered agaisnt uninsured moterists? 2) if i declare bankruptcy will it eliminate the money they sue me for if they end up going through with everything? and 3) do i possible have any options or alternatives? PLEASE HELP
