Question:
I have a '93 Ford F150, 302, 5 speed. When I let off of the gas I can hear a "clicking" sound, from what sounds like the rear of the truck. And when I accelerate I can hear a real quite whinning sound. Could this be my u-joints going bad?

Is an additive needed for low sulpher diesel for pre-2007 diesel engines?
If the noise is more of a clunk when you let off the gas, it could very well be u joints or possibly the ring and pinion gear in the rear end. A whining sound could be rear brakes dragging a bad bearing. You should probably get it inspected by a mechanic to verify whats up.Electric supercharger. Blow off valves?
U joints are pretty easy to check, crawl under the truck and grab the drive shaft close to the joint and try to Shake up and down and side to side, it shouldn't move. I have a slightly older F150 and i clunks the same as yours does. Greasing the u joints helped quite a bit, but the real problem is in the rear end. The only reason the rear end would be whining is if there were no fluid in it or a bearing has packed it in.More Questions & Answers ...
