in the tank..turn the ignition to on, you should he it come right on...it will be humming...ensure the radi etc is off...if you dont hear it when you turn the key on, its dead...dont worry about voltage, either it works or dont !...good luck !!

and duuh what voltage does you vehicle operate off of?
in general thinking anything you are allowed to touch operates with 12 volts DC,
the computer sends many signals at 5 volts DC but they are not a concern to you in fuel pump diagnostics
